Using A Sample Essay As A Grounding Point For Writing
Using A Sample Essay As A Grounding Point For WritingIn this article I am going to outline a simple to use sample prose essay. This is of course, a list and more lists are forthcoming in subsequent articles. The first stage in structuring a sample is picking out the material. Start with the most important aspects, the one or two sentences that tell us something about your authorial vision. You will need to get hold of these and tie them to the main idea in order to build a logical and coherent essay.Writing and editing of samples has always been an issue, both with beginners and professionals. Experienced writers would know the problem all too well: they get stuck on one idea for too long before deciding on another. All these different ideas remain fragmented in their minds and never come together as a coherent piece. The solution is to select the most important points to use in all the pieces, and think about how they might appear in sentences.Consider how easy it is to compile the c ontent of your samples, there are a couple of sample essay examples which will do just that. A good illustration is to start with some conventional English prose and then work it through, starting from the end. Most articles on an internet message board would follow this format, the key point being the opening sentence, the third paragraph, the concluding one and so on. It is far easier to get an essay on such a list together than it is to keep adding sentences as you go along.Another method is to use generic essays to build upon, in order to follow a certain style and make your work a little more interesting. This method is also good if you want to use existing written material rather than building from scratch. There are, however, disadvantages: if your essay is too generic it may be boring, but more importantly, it could also be misleading.Once you have chosen your list, a common problem is to get too many ideas for one article. Starting with a few sentences and narrowing down fr om there helps avoid this problem. You can start off with short sentences but build on these in separate paragraphs until the final list comes together in a coherent piece. Also, while writing the sample, consider how much time you will spend looking for the perfect image, and whether there is a best way to present it. This also means not cutting corners and coming up with a terrible piece. Finally, get a bit more experimental and write a couple of samples by using several different methods. Have a play with different styles, try to think in new ways and do not hesitate to experiment. A strong opinion that does not work with a single technique may not be good enough to put in the final article, you might also find you are better placed experimenting with a range of different styles.
